Whoohooo my life is overrrrr!! hahaha
It was only yesterday that I matched into my #1 choice program for Family Medicine, and now here I am about to embark on this crazy journey! Orientation begins officially this week and lasts for 2 weeks. Our schedule is surprisingly packed. I was thinking this period would be relatively chill, but each day is full with stuff from life support training to EMR training to program specific activities. They’re trying to wear us out before we even get started forreal! I’m excited though. Over the past 2 weeks that I’ve been in Charlotte, I’ve done some exploring and met the bulk of my intern class. Everyone is super chill and down to earth. No weirdos yet lol. I’m loving this city so far, as I knew I would. I’ve barely scratched the surface though, there’s so much more to see and experience, whenever I get some magical free time.
My first rotation is Pediatrics (starts July 1). That was literally the one rotation that I didn’t want to start on because I have the least knowledge in that arena. But hey, what can you do? I’m just taking advantage of the time I have now to do some light reading on the most common conditions presenting to the hospital and their management. Also trying to familiarize myself with the empiric antibiotics for meds, because everything is so different from adults. I guess it’s a blessing in disguise that I actually have time to look into this stuff ahead of time. Either way, I’m still going to be flustered when I start. I’m just hoping it won’t be so terrible if I can prep a little bit.
I’m fully settled in, my place is clean, I have food in the fridge–I’m ready to go! Honestly I’m starting to get restless at this point. The suspense is building and I just want to jump in and get started. So yeah, I’m ready for this week! Looking forward to meeting the rest of my family med squad and learning about my hospital system…and of course my benefits package lol. Updates to come!
