Whoohooo my life is overrrrr!! hahaha It was only yesterday that I matched into my #1 choice program for Family Medicine, and now here I am about to embark on this crazy journey! Orientation begins officially this week and lasts … Continue reading Intern year begins!
So my time in Atlanta is coming to an end. The celebrations are winding down and I’m saying many of my goodbyes. I can’t say that I’m not excited to move though! Last week I closed on my condo (yay!) and moved some of my stuff into my new place. This weekend I’ll be taking my final trip with my mom to bring the rest of my stuff up. I gave myself a full 2 weeks to get settled because not only do I need to get familiar with the area and figure out where to do my usual life … Continue reading Chapter Closing
Last week, two little letters got added to my name! I don’t think I’ve ever worked harder than I have for those letters. Ijeoma Okoye, MD. WOW. It’s still somewhat surreal to me. I have moments when it hits me … Continue reading What’s up Doc!?
I’m back from vacation feeling better than ever! You know how sometimes you take a vacation, and by the time it’s over, you feel like you need a vacation from the vacation?? Not this time. Me and my girls did … Continue reading 4th year Vacay Recap
Happy Easter! It’s true that in the 4th year of medical school, you have more free time than you’ll probably ever have again in your medical career, until you retire. And what better to do with all this time than … Continue reading Traveling Season
This weekend, 3 of my friends and I took a small girls trip to Chicago in celebration of my pal Stacy’s birthday. The best part of it was paying for all my flights with rewards points. And of course getting … Continue reading Girls Trip to Chicago and VLOG!
*Long post, lots of updates!* The past two weeks have actually been pretty busy despite not being on clinical rotations. I’m actually very thankful that I don’t have clinical rotations going on because it’s been nice having the flexibility to … Continue reading Post-Match Adulting
Turns out I’m ending 4th year on a more somber note than I expected. I really didn’t know what to expect from a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) rotation this time last year when I was scheduling it as my last rotation. I’m two of four weeks in and to say it’s been sad would be an understatement. Before this rotation, I had never been faced with so much sickness and death in a short span of time. I’d only had one patient die since starting my clinical rotations. But the patients in the MICU are so sick; many of … Continue reading Update: MICU rotation
Last week, four days ago to be exact, was the deadline for the submission of our rank order list to the NRMP (National Residency Match Program). At this point, there is officially nothing else we as applicants can do but wait until match week. It’s an interesting feeling for me though because for the past 3.5 years, I’ve been doing everything I can to be the best student I could be. I’ve worked hard in the classroom, led organizations and volunteered in the community, studied my butt off for STEP1/2, plastered on my best smile on for my clinical rotations, … Continue reading And now we wait…
